Interpersonal Communication
Context
Nobody works in isolation. One’s results are always influenced by other people’s willingness to contribute.
This programme lays the foundation for good professional interaction. Participants will get a very clear view on how their communication style influences others’ behaviour and will learn how to adjust when needed.
Objectives
By the end of the programme, participants will:
- Have a clear view on their own communication style.
- Have improved their listening skills.
- Have increased their proficiency in reading non-verbal behaviour.
- Be able to express in a concise and effective way.
- Be more capable to distinguish between details and outlines.
- Know which communication channels are suitable for which type of message.
Senior Management
- In addition to the objectives above, these elements are crucial for senior management:
- Distinguish between what should or should not be communicated.
- Communication in change processes, when building a communication plan is crucial.
- Insight in the causes of resistance and knowledge on how to cope with it through various communication channels.
- Attitudes and skills in communication are challenged individually.
- What should be communicated directly and what should be communicated through “ambassadors”.
Approach
- Increased awareness of the relevance of this theme through the use of questionnaires
- Interactive presentation of a model.
- Deepened insight in Leary’s model via small group exercises and discussions.
- Concretizing the model by variously linking it back to every day work situations.
- Practice of applications by both home assignments and group exercises with systematic and individualized feedback.
